El Corazón del Jardín
Project type: Architectural competition, Garden architecture, Hotel, Re-purpose
Size: 1300 m2
The focus of this project has been to design an extension that is worthy of the location. The main building houses 8 suites ranging in size from 51.9 m2 to 78.5 m2. All suites have as their basic idea a fantastic view of the fields surrounding the project. In total, the suites have room for a total of 20 people. The main building also has two patio gardens and a large, central greenhouse. This greenhouse is intended to function as a meeting place between local villagers and visitors, where you can buy vegetables and plants. Just outside the winter garden is an event space that can be used for larger dinners, weddings, etc.
In front of the main house you will find a smaller annex that serves as a reception. In the annex you will also find the garbage room, which is emptied at scheduled times in the evenings. The existing buildings are to be preserved, as a way to keep the rustic and charming elements of the site.
The materials chosen for the project have been very much inspired by the buildings on the site, with some deviations. The unique yellow colour of the existing buildings, together with a darker natural stone, creates a nice contrast between the old and the new. The sedum roof on the main building also enhances this feeling.
The outdoor environment has also been important in the project. Extensive new cultivation areas and walks have also been created. The view from the Australian pool has also been opened up and from it you have a nice view of the areas and the new cultivation areas.
